Knowing the difference between your routing number vs. account number is something that you will have to know as an adult, and if you have a bank account.
If you receive direct deposit from your employer or if you are going to receive a tax refund from the IRS, for example, you need to tell them where to send your money.
You do not need to memorize your routing number or your account number, but you do need to know how to find them.
Here are the ways you can find your bank’s routing number and your account number:
- Look on your check. If you have checks, you will find it in the lower-left corner of the check. The first number is the routing number. The middle number is your account number.
- Your statement. Whether you get your statement in the mail or you look at it from your online account or mobile app, you can find it there.
- Your online account dashboard. Most of the banks will have this information right on your home screen. Just click on either ‘routing number’ or ‘account number’ and it will pop up.
- Seach bar on your online account. If you cannot find the routing number or your account number, you can just type it into the search bar of your online account to find the instructions on where it is.
- Chat online. Open the chat bar of your online account and ask.
- Call your bank and ask the representative for it.
That’s it! Now you know the difference between a routing number vs. account number. Get that money!
