HTL 019: Social Media Addiction and How to Overcome It, with Johan Versteegh

Social Media Addiction

The age of social media is brilliant, advantageous, and incredibly fun. There are so many wonderful benefits because of it.

But there are also a few negatives and one of them is social media addiction.

Addiction traditionally means a physical need for something, meaning there are physical side effects if you don’t get your “fix”.

And yes, this can happen with social media.

If you are beginning to realize that you find yourself needing to check in on your social media accounts, you fall asleep with your phone in your hand, you feel lonely or lost if you are away too long, it is affecting your productivity, or your friends or family are giving you hints that you aren’t really present when you are with them…you might have a problem.

Johan Versteegh is the founder of Social Media Breakup and he has a 6-step formula to help you recognize the signs, realize what void you might be trying to fill, and reconnect with yourself and the real world.

About Johan Versteegh

Originally from Holland, Johan struggled enormously from phone and social media addiction a few years ago. He knew he had to find a way to unhook himself from screens but he didn’t want to completely abstain from tech and screens; they are part of our lives, and they are here to stay.

Through his own 6-step process, he learned how to use screens mindfully.

These days he helps individuals and families to recover from phone and social media addiction.

The focus is not just on helping people stop “liking and posting” their lives away, but on helping them to become a better version of themselves, as well.

He now lives in Dublin, Ireland and his mission is to help people live their lives with purpose, and free from tech-addiction.
