It is very easy and safe. Don’t worry. In this day and age, the stove practically lights itself.
Are you a little afraid of using a gas stove? Or maybe you don’t know how to turn it on?
A gas stove works when the gas that supplies your home is released through the holes in the burner of the stovetop and then is ignited creating a flame. Usually your stove has an automatic ignition system that lights it for you. You can light it manually, but this Mominar will focus on the premise that you have a stove in proper working condition.
The knobs on your stove show you what burner you will be lighting. You just follow the pictures behind each knob.
You will see different settings on the knob OFF, LIGHT, HIGH-LOW, but there are 2 main settings I want to focus on first: OFF and LIGHT.
The one that will get your stove to fire up is LIGHT.
On this stove and most others, you will
- First: Push the knob in
- Second: Then turn the knob slowly to the left, COUNTERCLOCKWISE, to the LIGHT position.
You will most likely hear a hissing sound. It may be very quiet. That is the gas being released. You won’t see it. But you might smell it. It has a sort-of rotten egg smell.
You will also hear a fast clicking sound before it ignites. That is the stove letting you know that gas is being released.
Continue slowly turning the knob to the left toward the HIGH position.
The gas will ignite, and you will see a blue flame.
YOU DID IT!
From here, you can adjust the flame by using the other options on the knob, high to low, depending on what your needs are for whatever you are cooking on the stove.
When you are done, don’t forget to turn the knob back to the OFF position.
At first, be careful and do this somewhat slowly and purposefully. But once you understand it, you will be able to turn it on quickly and seamlessly.
Now you are ready to cook something for yourself! Another important life skill to master!
